Children's Museum Houston and YMCA collaborate for "My Colorful Feelings" Summer activity

HOUSTON (July 2, 2024) – In an exciting fusion of entertainment and education, Children's Museum Houston is thrilled to announce a unique tie-in with the highly anticipated release of Disney Pixar's "Inside Out 2" through an activity called "My Colorful Feelings,” which is part of the Museum's Summer of Literacy program hosted at various YMCA sites across Houston.

Just like the beloved characters in "Inside Out 2," young participants explore the vibrant world of emotions through a hands-on, creative activity designed to help them understand and express their feelings. This initiative is perfectly aligned with the Museum’s mission to transform communities through innovative child-centered learning that improves the trajectories of all children.  The activity provides engaging educational experiences that foster emotional intelligence and literacy in children.

"MY COLORFUL FEELINGS" ACTIVITY OVERVIEW:

• ‍Book Reading: Children dive into the story of "The Color Monster" by Anna Llenas. This delightful book helps children identify and understand various emotions by correlating them with different colors, much like the characters in "Inside Out."‍
• Emotional Identification: Through interactive discussions, children identify the emotions of happiness, sadness, anger, fear, calm, and love, enhancing their emotional vocabulary and self-awareness.‍
• Creative Expression: Participants create their own monster puppets, choosing the colors that represent their current feelings. This artistic activity allows children to express themselves creatively while reinforcing their understanding of emotions.‍
• Text-to-Self Connections: By relating the story to their own experiences, children learn that it is normal to feel a range of emotions, sometimes all at once. Understanding and recognizing these feelings are crucial steps in developing emotional regulation skills.

"Inside Out 2" continues to explore the complexities of emotions in a way that resonates with both children and adults. "My Colorful Feelings" is designed to mirror this theme, making it a perfect complement to the movie’s release. By engaging in this activity, children not only have fun but also gain valuable tools to understand and manage their emotions.
