About the Program

Para los Niños, originally developed to invite Spanish-speaking immigrants into public libraries, has developed into a multilingual format supporting families with young children. Each workshop provides parents with resources, strategies and activities to improve family literacy, learning practices and parents’ abilities to serve as their child’s first teacher.

All materials and resources needed to establish a program are available at no cost.

Each workshop includes a story-reading modeling session and a series of learning activities for use at home related to the workshop’s theme.

What Parents Need to Know

Program Development & History

Para los Niños was created through a partnership between Children’s Museum Houston and Houston Public Library and has been implemented in over 25 public libraries in the Houston and Harris County area. The program has also been established at Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., through a partnership with the Broward County Library System and St. Paul/Minneapolis, Minn., through a partnership with Minnesota Children’s Museum and their local library systems.
