The Happiest Math Field Trip Ever!

When have you seen children this excited about math? The Museum's Family Math Adventures program builds confidence about math through evening field trips for the whole family. With free busing and free admission, everyone is welcome at these events that encourage families to visit the Museum for the very first time.

Family Math Adventures show parents new ways that they can help their children practice math skills. Finding the answers to equations is fun when you dig up the numbers like an archeologist, and bar graphs become exciting when paired with colorful teddy bears (shown below). Friendly volunteers from the Junior League of Houston help families explore each activity. Plus, families can also experience all of the Museum's exhibits as part of their Adventure.

How effective are Family Math Adventures? Last year, more than 400 parents were surveyed: 98% said the program increased their confidence about teaching their child math at home, and 98% said they felt more prepared to help their child succeed in school.

A parent shared that they "Really enjoyed the disguise in teaching kids to do math the fun way." Many parents also stated specific ways the evening had benefited their children, such as "The math game was really good for my son because he is struggling a little understanding fractions, but the game gave him more understanding."
