A Game of Physics and Leaf Blowers

January 21, 2026

Sponsored by ExxonMobil

When a game is this fun, even the adults have to join in. In December, Museum visitors teamed up with CMH's CEO Rayanne Darensbourg and ExxonMobil Foundation President Alvin Abraham for a game of Bernoulli Basketball. Players used leaf blowers to score points without ever touching a ball, which provided a vivid illustration of principles discovered by physicist Daniel Bernoulli.

This friendly competition was a part of the 2025 ExxonMobil MindFest Finale. Throughout the past year, the Museum presented exciting STEM activities every month as part of MindFest. Programming has included designing pinball machines, constructing giant spider webs, and concocting fizzy lemonade. Parents have shared that these activities had many positive impacts:

  • 99% said their children gained knowledge/skills through ExxonMobil MindFest.
  • 96% said their children used problem-solving skills.
  • 100% of families were interested in more opportunities to engage in STEM.

Even science skeptics have been won over by MindFest activities. For example, a parent commented, “At first, my kid didn’t want to participate, but he ended up having the most fun. I love bringing my kids here.” Another parent shared, "[My son] said this was his favorite day ever!”

MindFest is continuing into 2026, with more exciting activities every month. This programming is a part of Full STEAM Ahead, a Museum science initiative underwritten by ExxonMobil.
