HOUSTON (March 29, 2024) – The countdown has begun for an extraordinary cosmic event as Children's Museum Houston gears up to host a series of captivating Facebook Livestreams on April 8, 2024, to celebrate the total solar eclipse!
With a mission to transform communities through innovative, child-centered learning that improves the trajectories of all children, the Museum is taking this celestial phenomenon directly into elementary schools and community centers across the region. From colorful planet costumes to live observations during totality, Children's Museum Houston promises an engaging lineup of events to make the solar eclipse experience unforgettable for all ages.
(The Museum is closed to the public on Mondays during the school year).
SOLAR ECLIPSE LINEUP
The live streams will kick off with an electrifying introduction featuring the Museum’s social media interstellar stars, educators John, Jacob, and LB (who have been donning planetary costumes on IG and Tik Tok teasing the Museum’s solar eclipse programming) followed by a comprehensive explanation of the solar eclipse, ensuring viewers understand the magic unfolding in the sky. As the partial eclipse begins, educators will provide valuable insights into the difference between partiality and totality, emphasizing safety measures to observe this awe-inspiring event.
Join educator Pilar live from Community Family Centers in Greater East End for a fun-filled moon activity you can replicate at home - creating moon craters!
Get crafty with educator Jae at Corpus Christi Catholic School in Southwest Houston as she demonstrates a quick DIY pinhole viewer, allowing viewers to safely witness the eclipse.
At Bammel Elementary in North Houston, educator Devon will offer a live view of the eclipse while shedding light on its impact, such as birds falling silent and the slight drop in temperature. Devon will also reiterate safety protocols for observing the eclipse firsthand.
Finally, at Pomeroy Elementary in Pasadena, educator Jason will take viewers through live observations during totality, capturing the mesmerizing moments as the moon fully obscures the sun.
