WHAT:
To protect children from head injuries and encourage fitness, the Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) Pediatric Student Association and the Texas Medical Association’s (TMA’s) Hard Hats for Little Heads program will give 50-bicycle helmets for free to the first 50-children to arrive with admission reservation during Free Family Night Thursday, July 30, at Children’s Museum Houston. Child must be present to receive helmet and helmets are limited to up to three children per family.

WHO:
Medical students, together with TMA and the Texas Pediatric Society, the Texas Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (TPS), are joining forces to ensure Houston children can get outside and ride safely. Children will learn why wearing a helmet is important and receive a new helmet.
WHY:
Texas physicians want Texas children to be active — and safe. Wearing a properly fitted bicycle helmet is an easy way to prevent injury. Head injury is the most common cause of death and serious disability from bike crashes. Physicians encourage children to wear the correct helmet for every wheeled sport, including biking, skateboarding, inline skating, and when riding a scooter.
MORE:
TPS provided funding for this giveaway, which is sponsored by a TPS member. TPS’ support helps its members encourage health and safety in more communities across Texas through “Hard Hats for Little Heads.” “Hard Hats for Little Heads” is supported in 2020 with a TMA Foundation grant thanks to a donation from an anonymous physician and spouse, and donors who matched their generous gift.
TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation, representing more than 53,000 physician and medical student members. It is in Austin and has 110 component county medical societies around the state. TMA’s key objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans.
WHEN:
Thursday, July 30, 2020, from 5 – 8 p.m. or until all the helmets have been given away.
