Children's Museum Houston and Fort Bend Children's Discovery Center celebrate Autism Awareness Month with two Sensory Friendly Day events!

April 7 at Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center sponsored by FLUOR

April 14 at Children’s Museum Houston made possible through gifts from The Stanford and Joan Alexander Family

 

HOUSTON (March 27, 2025)April is Autism Awareness Month, and we're rolling out the red carpet for an extraordinary, welcoming and understanding adventure at Children's Museum Houston and Fort Bend Children's Discovery Center! Designed exclusively for children with autism spectrum disorder, sensory processing differences, and learning variances, our Sensory Friendly Days promise a museum experience where every child can let their curiosity shine—without the extra noise and distractions, featuring:  

 

  • Less crowded environment – Enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere.
  • Light and sound reduction – A calm space for focused fun.
  • Extra visual safety signage – Know where to go with ease.
  • Designated quiet rooms – Recharge in a peaceful space.
  • Check out a KultureCity Sensory Bag! Includes noise-reducing headphones, fidgets, a visual cue card, and an ID Card with a breakaway lanyard—available at the Welcome Center!

When:   From 10 a.m. to noon in Kidtropolis Town Center.

Sensory Friendly Story Time: Join an interactive reading experience.

When:  At 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Kidtropolis Town Center.

STEM Masters Science Experiments: Experience hands-on fun with science!

When: All day in Junktion Hall.

ACES ABA, Bright Path Behavior & More: Learn about sensory resources.

When: All Day at the Front Entrance.

 

CHILDREN’S MUSEUM HOUSTON – SENSORY FRIENDLY DAY WITH EASTER BUNNY!

Monday, April 14, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Easter Bunny Meet-and Greet: Hop into a festive photo opportunity!

When: From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.in Kid’s Hall Alcove.

Faithful Paws Therapy Animals: Get together with furry friends ready for snuggles.

When: All Day in front of Fresh Café.

Sensory Friendly Story Time: Take part in interactive reading sessions.

When: At 10:30, 11, and 11:30a.m., noon, and 12:30 p.m. in Parent Resource Library.

Houston Ballet Immersive Experience: Enjoy a mesmerizing, movement-friendly activity.

When: From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in New Kids’ Hall.

UH Cognitive Lab, ACES ABA, Luna Family Autism & More: Learn about resources and programs designed to support neurodivergent kids

When: All day in various locations.

 

Sensory Friendly Days at Children’s Museum Houston and Fort Bend Children's Discovery Center are designed to spark joy, encourage exploration, and provide a welcoming space for children and families. This Autism Awareness Month, let's celebrate differences, embrace inclusion, and make memories—one sensory-friendly adventure at a time!

 

HOURS/COST:

  • SENSORY FRIENDLY DAY SPECIAL HOURS: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Special Sensory Friendly Day Admission:  
       
    • $9.95 per person at Children’s Museum Houston.  
    •  
    • $8 per person at Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center.  
    •  
    • Children under one and Museum Members receive free admission.
