Financial Literacy with a Tie-Dye Twist

May 3, 2025

Sponsored by Bank of America

Calculating profit margins isn't something most kids enjoy doing. But add in tie-dye, friendship bracelets, and lemonade—and suddenly kids are excited to build their financial skills. The Museum celebrated Financial Literacy Month with workshops featuring crafts that were part of simulated businesses. Children were challenged to calculate expenses (such as the cost of lemons and sugar for lemonade) and determine how much they would charge for their products.

"The workshops were a great way for children to start exploring entrepreneurial skills early on," shared Megan Poffenbarger, CMH Humanities Program Specialist. "Many children said they were excited to start their own small businesses when they returned home!"
