This dynamic series of free workshops is developed from a residency program that pairs Houston-based artists with talented local teachers to guide young creatives through unique, hands-on experiences. Come learn about culture, explore art techniques, and express your creativity!

Cyanotype Print Making: Make your own beautiful blue & white masterpiece! In this hands-on workshop, families will create a custom cyanotype print inspired by the world-famous porcelain patterns that traveled the globe centuries ago. Discover the fascinating history behind blue & white ceramics while making a unique artwork to take home.

‍Artist: June XuJune Xu (Xu Yichuan)

A cultural producer, artist and filmmaker whose practice centers on moving -image and visual art projects rooted in archival research and oral history. Her work explores memory, migration, and cultural inheritance, translating historical narratives into public-facing exhibitions, films, and long-term research-based projects.

Teacher: Faye Thai

An Elementary Art Teacher at Sonal Bhuchar Elementary and a local Houstonian Artist. She graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor's in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Minor in Art. Faye values art education in kids as it develops fine-motor skills, creative problem-solving, and historical/cultural appreciation.

Beyond the classroom, you may find Faye creating surrealist oil paintings, throwing whimsical ceramics, or exercising at a nearby pilates studio.

Teacher: Miya Morgan

Hello, my name is Miya Morgan and I’m excited to be working with the Children’s Museum Houston on the EastArts residency program! I’ve been an art teacher for a few years now in Houston schools and am thrilled to serve more of the Houston community at the museum. I hope to inspire young learners as they continue to inspire me!

Teacher: Tomas Feijo

I was born in Rio de Janeiro and grew up in Houston, TX. I attended HSPVA and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago to study sound, photography, and writing essays about books. I've since had the pleasure of being an art educator for the past 11 years at the high school and elementary levels. My goal in education is to help students build confidence. I try to do this by introducing them to historical and contemporary artists and facilitating their material explorations. I believe that- if done with fidelity- this can generate acute moments of individual creation and self-actualization.

Other facts about me: I prefer things be organized chronologically, I love being nearby when people make realizations, and I collect pieces of handwriting I find on the ground.
